Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district, recently expressed her views on Medicaid through a series of tweets. Her comments were focused on who should benefit from Medicaid and criticized past administrations for their handling of the program.
On May 14, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks stated "Medicaid is for the most vulnerable low income families, pregnant women, kids, seniors and the disabled—not illegal immigrants or able bodied men who choose not to work." She further added that "Obama and Biden made the rules, then broke it," while asserting that "@HouseGOP is fixing it."
Later that day at 15:00 UTC, she tweeted about ongoing debates within Congress regarding Medicaid policies: "We are now going on hour 19 of Democrats arguing in favor of more waste, fraud and abuse in Medicaid."
An hour later at 16:03 UTC, Rep. Miller-Meeks reiterated her stance with another tweet: "We are now going on HOUR 20 of Democrats arguing in favor of more waste, fraud and abuse in Medicaid."
Mariannette Miller-Meeks has served in Congress since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021. Before this role, she was a member of the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire, she holds a BSN from Texas Christian University.
