Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa's 1st district, shared her views and activities through a series of tweets. She has been serving in this capacity since 2021 after replacing Dave Loebsack and has previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021.
On May 8, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks commented on a potential appointment by President Trump, expressing support for David Barker. She stated, "If true, this would be a great pick by President Trump! David Barker has led the charge to root out radical DEI programs plaguing Iowa’s universities. He understands the importance of academic excellence over woke ideology and would be a strong voice at the Department of".
The following day, May 9, she acknowledged Military Spouse Appreciation Day with personal gratitude towards her husband Curt and all military spouses. In her tweet, she wrote: "It’s Military Spouse Appreciation Day, and I’m especially grateful for my husband Curt—an Army veteran like myself, my rock, and my best friend. I love him dearly and thank all military spouses, like Curt and my Mom, for their strength, flexibility and sacrifice."
Later that day on May 9th, Rep. Miller-Meeks engaged with students at Bettendorf High School during a Q&A session discussing key issues such as budget balancing and veterans' services funding. She expressed appreciation to the hosts in her tweet: "Great to join students at Bettendorf High School for a thoughtful Q&A on the issues that matter: balancing the budget, funding veterans’ services, and securing a stronger future for the next generation. Miller-Meeks was born in Herlong, California in 1955 but currently resides in Le Claire. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a BSN in 1976.
