Enjoy a game of chess – or learn how. Chess, juggling lessons, and logic puzzles are the highlight of every Wednesday afternoon at the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center – Clinton, Iowa’s Children’s Museum.
WOW Wednesdays with Miss Jean—Chess, Juggling, Logic Puzzles
A weekly program at the Discovery Center is WOW Wednesday with Miss Jean, every Wednesday afternoon, from 2 to 5 p.m. Jean Sweeney, a retired teacher originally from the Chicagoland area, now lives in western Illinois, and spends her Wednesdays at the children’s museum sharing her love of games. Miss Jean and her unique activities are open to all ages including adults. She teaches chess, plays chess matches, teaches juggling, and shares her large collection of logic puzzles, hands-on blocks and magnet games, and brain builder kits. These activities require no preregistration and are free with museum admission.
Funtime Friday & Saturday – Act Out The Mitten
This Friday, January 13, and Saturday, January 14, at 10:30 each morning, bring the Funtime, a program primarily for preschoolers and their grown ups although all ages are always welcome.
This week, Kim Caldwell, retired educator from the West Carroll School District, will present a beloved children’s book The Mitten. Children will help act out the favorite wintertime story with stuffed animals and a giant mitten. A craft activity will also be a part of the fun.
The Funtime program is a free activity with museum admission. It is sponsored each week by the Kiwanis Clubs of Clinton, Fulton, and Camanche.
Saturday Special – Crafting with Colleen
Every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., the Discovery Center offers a hands-on program for children and families. This week local crafter Colleen Hastings will host a creative session open to all ages. Stop by and make a fun project to take home and enjoy.
The program is free with museum admission and no registration is required.
The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center is located in Downtown Clinton, at 332 8th Avenue South, at the foot of the U.S. 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi.
The Discovery Center is open five days a week: Wednesdays, 12:30-5 p.m.; Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person for ages two to 64, $4 per person for ages 65 and older, free for children one year and younger, and free for Discovery Center members and U.S. veterans with I.D. Annual memberships are available at the museum.
The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center is a non-profit children's museum bringing learning through play in every way.
