The city of Pella is bringing the Bos Landen Conference Center back up to code.

The City Council approved a contract during a recent meeting posted on YouTube that would award an agreement for restoration and renovation of the Bos Landen Conference Center. The city’s insurance will cover all necessary costs and services to bring the building back up to code and operational again through this construction project, besides the deductible of $5,000.

"In reviewing it, looking at the intended use of the golf course on it, our recommendation is to proceed with the project to restore the conference center to allow for the Bos Landen golf facility on it as well," city administrator Mike Nardini told the council.

The city staff did advise the council that they did not recommend including the windows estimate and agreement in the contract, as they thought there were many more windows that should be replaced now or soon and would rather do that as one project. But they did recommend replacing the kitchen floors, ceiling and some other portions to be able to reopen the kitchen.

Beyond the base bid, the alternates proposed would be just over $60,000, which the city would have to pay for because they are not covered by insurance. If the city were to do nothing with the building, insurance would just reimburse them for the value of the building, around $750,000. The council voted to proceed with the project.
