Following the close of the plaintiff’s case during a trial in Black Hawk County, Mark Thomas obtained a directed verdict on behalf of his client, an Iowa attorney. The plaintiff filed a legal malpractice claim against Mark’s client, alleging the attorney failed to bring an action challenging a tax deed after a tax sale of property in Waterloo.
The case proceeded to trial on July 6, 2021. After the close of the plaintiff’s case on July 7, 2021, Mark moved for a directed verdict based on the plaintiff’s failure to provide expert testimony on an attorney’s standard of care. The court granted the motion for directed verdict with costs assessed to the plaintiff.
