CITY OF KNOXVILLE: Volunteer Positions Open on the Zoning Board of Adjustment

Volunteer sign

City of Knoxville issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

The City of Knoxville Planning and Zoning Department is actively looking for between 2-5 volunteers to serve on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Board of Adjustment hears applications for Variances and Special Use Permits.

Board members are appointed by the Mayor for a term of five (5) years and meet on Wednesday’s once a month. Meetings generally last less than one hour. If there are no applications, the Board doesn’t meet that month. In some cases, this Board can go several months with no meetings.

This is an excellent opportunity to serve your community that doesn’t require much of your time. No previous experience is required as City Staff will work with and teach you about your role and

responsibilities as a member of the Board of Adjustment.

If anyone is interested in learning more about this Board and its responsibilities, please contact Planning and Zoning Administrator Bill Mettee at 641-828-0550 opt.1 or bmettee@knoxvilleia.gov.
