Pella Regional Health Center issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
We understand the importance of having our nation’s children back attending schools for their best education experience. We are also concerned for the health and safety of the faculty and students. We acknowledge that individual school systems have worked diligently to prepare for this coming year in order to keep their faculty and students safe, and we support each individual school district's efforts.
In an effort to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Infection Prevention Programs at Pella Regional Health Center and Knoxville Hospital & Clinics utilize mitigation measures based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We believe that wearing masks, face shields or goggles when in close contact, practicing proper social distancing and handwashing technique remain our best defense against the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provide guidance for who should or should not wear masks and recognizes that wearing masks may not be possible in every situation or for some people. In light of these CDC and AAP recommendations, we will not be providing patients exemptions for wearing a mask at school.
