Warren County Court has been temporarily relocated to the Warren County Administration Building to better allow for social distancing practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, as construction continues on the new $30 million courthouse and jail, We Are Iowa News reported.
"From a cost standpoint, this makes the best sense for the county," Warren County Attorney Doug Eichholz said. "In addition, this is probably the biggest place that in at least Indianola that we can find to hold jury trials."
Court services are being held in the Administration Building’s old school auditorium, which was previously used as a place for a congregate meal program that’s been put on hold because of the pandemic.
Social distancing practices and safety protocols will be enforced.
"Masks will be required," Eichholz said. "They'll check in just like they would normally at any other court facility in the state, and then they'll be seated distance from other people."
Construction on the new $30 million courthouse and jail is still ongoing.
"I was told this morning that the foundation walls should be done here shortly, and then we'll start to see steel erection going up in August," Eichholz said.
The former courthouse was condemned and demolished last year.
