Roughly 69% of residents in Polk County have taken part in the 2020 Census so far which ranks the county as having the 38th highest response rate in the state of Iowa.
Iowa currently has the fourth highest participation rates in nation with 68.3% of Iowans responding, according the 2020 Census Self-Response Rankings dashboard from the U.S. Census Bureau. The City of Des Moines has seen a response rate of 62.1%.
While data included in the rankings was collected from individuals who completed the census by phone, mail or online, census takers will visit homes that have not yet responded.
“Census takers are hired from your area, and their goal is to help you and everyone in your home be counted,” the 2020 Census website states. “Census takers will wear masks and follow local public health guidelines when they visit your home. All census takers complete a virtual COVID-19 training on social distancing and other health and safety protocols before beginning their work in neighborhoods.”
