The Marion County Board of Supervisors have decided to approve the Prairie Ridge Urban Renewal Plan, according to KNIA KRLS Radio.
Mark Raymie, Chairman of the Marion County Board of Supervisors, told the Journal Express the approval should signal to the public and potential contractors the board is ready to move forward with the project and a development agreement should follow.
"It gives them some assurances that we’re still considering the project, but it doesn’t yet commit us to a timing or an issuance of debt," Raymie told the Journal Express.
Steve McCombs, a member of the board, told the Journal Express he was concerned about straining taxpayers with the cost of this project, during the COVID-19 pandemic, but that is no longer a problem since the issuance of debt was not a factor in moving the plan forward, according to KNIA KRLS Radio.
“I am totally in agreement with the urban renewal plan," McCombs told the Journal Express. "It was the timing that we had discussed about when this would all take place and when the funds would become available. That was my main concern."
