Many Madison County roads are slated for overlay after the Board of Commissioners approved a $2.7 million project, the Norfolk Daily News reported on April 1.
Troy Uhlir, Chairman of the board, explained that the overlay will cover even more miles with the hopes of attracting larger companies to bid. As of April 1, three companies tossed their hat in the ring, with the lowest bidder being Western Engineering Company Incorporated, based out of Harlan, Iowa. The board went into contract with that company to complete the project.
“By doing additional miles we were able to get a better price, we likely saved around $250,000 so hopefully we won’t be bonding for $5 million,” said Uhlir, according to the Norfolk Daily News. “It’s looking like we made a good decision."
He added that Platte County will fund $347,000 of the approved $2.7 million considering Madison County will assist Platte for more competitive pricing of the Monastery Road just east of Highway 81.
