The Marion County Public Health Department has been in contact with businesses, hospitals, school districts and health care responders to deal with the evolving impacts of the coronavirus and have opened an information center to deal with pandemic.

The Joint Information Center that Marion County officials opened is to ensure there is a coordinated effort by leaders and community partners to combat the coronavirus, kniakris.com reported.

While the virus is continually changing, county officials hope that working together to plan and act on the situation can stop the spread in the county.

Officials will continue to meet on the coronavirus in the weeks ahead.

County residents can find important information about the virus on the county website, www.marioncountiowa.gov, which also includes links to important resources and also the Iowa Department of Public Health’s website.

As of Monday, March 23, the IDPH reported 90 cases in the state and the amount of cases in each county. Additionally they reported that as of March 22, there were 1,215 negative COVID-19 tests, which is the number of tests performed at the state hygienic lab and not those sent to the national labs.

Marion County officials, as reported by kniakris.com, say the goal is to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the county and in the surrounding communities.

County officials are asking the residents to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease which includes washing hands frequently for 20 seconds, avoiding sick people, staying home when you are sick, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects, among others.
