Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, shared a series of updates on social media addressing significant developments and meetings she has recently undertaken.
On May 12, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks announced that Edan Alexander had been released after spending “584 days in Hamas captivity”. She expressed her gratitude to President Biden for assisting in securing Alexander’s release and extended prayers for his recovery and reunion with his family.
Later that day, she shared about a productive meeting with Bettendorf officials including Mayor Robert Gallagher, City Administrator Decker Ploehn, and Assistant City Administrator Jeff Reiter. The discussion focused on “my work to keep taxes low for Iowa families and small businesses through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” and exploring support mechanisms for Bettendorf.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks reported a meeting with Caitlin Russell, President of Russell Construction. They discussed the company’s role in building VA outpatient clinics. Rep. Miller-Meeks emphasized her efforts to “cut red tape, extend the Trump tax cuts, and support tools like the CHIP IN Act”, which aim to foster public-private partnerships.
Mariannette Miller-Meeks has served in Congress since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955, she now resides in Le Claire.
