Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., currently serving Iowa’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, shared her thoughts on social media regarding significant legislative developments affecting tax policies and healthcare improvements. On May 22, 2025, she expressed concerns about potential tax increases and highlighted recent legislative actions.

On May 22 at 10:13 a.m., Rep. Miller-Meeks tweeted that “Iowa families and small businesses are staring down the largest tax hike in American history.” She urged action to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act proposed by the President to make the Trump-era tax cuts permanent.

Later that morning at 11:06 a.m., she announced that “The House has passed @POTUS’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, which aims to provide tax relief for Iowans, preserve Medicaid, and enhance border security. She called on the Senate to take similar steps.

By early afternoon at 1:56 p.m., Rep. Miller-Meeks proudly stated that two of her bills were included in this legislation: “the Medicaid Program Improvement Act and the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act.” These measures focus on reducing administrative burdens and ensuring rapid access to care for vulnerable populations.

Mariannette Miller-Meeks has served in Congress since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021, following a tenure in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California, she graduated from Texas Christian University with a BSN in 1976 and now resides in Le Claire.
