Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., representing Iowa’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently shared several updates on her official social media platform, relating to healthcare, education, and community development.

On April 17, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks commented on a significant move by former President Trump to address drug prices, stating “President Trump’s Executive Order is a bold step to lower drug prices and bring real transparency to our healthcare system. PBMs have been driving prices up for too long. I’m proud to be leading efforts in Congress, such as my bill the DRUG Act, to hold them accountable and”. This highlights her ongoing legislative efforts to reform pharmaceutical pricing structures.

Later that day, she posted about her engagement with initiatives promoting skilled trades in Iowa. She mentioned “Great to meet students, teachers, and skilled trades professionals from Indianola, Knoxville, and Newton at the Build My Tomorrow event! I’m proud to support the next generation of Iowa’s workforce, promote education about skilled trades and good-paying, hands-on jobs available”.

In a further message the same day, Rep. Miller-Meeks expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the groundbreaking ceremony of a new health facility. She stated “A rainy day wasn’t going to stop us from celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Community Health Care Muscatine Clinic! Honored to have been a part of this special ceremony that benefits the community and excited for the clinic’s opening in the near future.”. This demonstrates her support for community health infrastructure.

Miller-Meeks was born in Herlong, California, in 1955 and pursued her education at Texas Christian University, where she earned a BSN in 1976. She has been a proponent of legislative measures impacting both healthcare reform and workforce development in her role in Congress.
